The
"Man from Utah" is none other than Rollin Glen Southwell. Since
1995, he has been active in pursuits for the Lincoln Highway Association.
He currently serves as a National Director at Large, previously he has
been the president and vice president of the Utah Chapter. His work for
the Lincoln Highway is fueled by a love for history. And history really
comes to live on the Lincoln Highway with automobiles, road trips, adventures
and colorful characters such as the founder Carl Fisher.
When first reading
the Goodyear Contract, Rollin Southwell realized Carl Fisher was entitled
to a monument he didn't receive. The Man from Utah thought, well better
later than never. So, he went to work to see how he could make it happen,
knowing that this visionary man, Carl Fisher was a vital part of the Lincoln
Highway and its history which should be preserved and cherished.
In 1914, Carl
Fisher said, "The Lincoln Highway is something more than a road,
it will be a road with personality, a distinctive work of which the America
of future generations can point to with pride-an economic, but also artistic
triumph." Fisher's vision of the highway came to fruition despite
all obstacles. Carl Fisher deserves the monument he was promised. To make
a donation and help build this Carl Fisher monument, please contact the
Man from Utah.
Rollin Southwell was the convention chairman of the 2005 National Lincoln Highway
Conference, which was held in Ely, Nevada.
